“ Ron Nirenberg appears to be the right person to minimize the influence of special interests and restore confidence in the City Council, and he will have my vote. ”
A community leader, entrepreneur, family man and public servant, Ron Nirenberg was elected to San Antonio’s City Council, representing District 8, on June 15, 2013.
Councilman Nirenberg is a former program director for the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, where he developed and managed award-winning civic engagement and policy research initiatives in cities across the United States, including San Antonio. From 2001 to 2009, he worked with projects such as Student Voices, FactCheck.org and FactCheckED.org, Justice Talking and Justice Learning, and the Annenberg Classroom.
He is currently the General Manager of Trinity University’s noncommercial KRTU-FM, where he leads a public media operation that serves both an academic and professional broadcast mission. Under his leadership, the station recently unveiled an unprecedented, citywide collaboration among the nonprofit community, resulting in international coverage of the San Antonio arts scene and increased access to some of the city’s treasured cultural institutions.
As Councilman, Nirenberg seeks to balance the needs of the very diverse citizenry in District 8, while helping to harness the rapid growth of this community. He believes the balance will require special attention to aquifer protection and smart growth policies, while also encouraging a business-friendly climate that spurs job creation. Councilman Nirenberg is focused on how City Council can work to improve the quality of life for all San Antonio residents.
